BRITISH ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL HYPNOSIS
Dr Rumi Peynovska, Organizing Secretary
Last year in the spring/summer edition of the LCCH News we announced the incorporation of the British Association of Medical Hypnosis. The main objects for which we established the Association are:
- to promote hypnotherapy in the field of mainstream medicine;
- to foster and promote research in medical hypnosis;
- to provide its members with a professional body which will act on their behalf to further and protect their interest;
- to keep and publish a Register of Members;
- to promote appropriate standards for safe practise of hypnotherapy;
- to publish a journal which will disseminate
scientific knowledge in the field of hypnosis;
- to establish a solid basis for a good clinical evidence-based hypnotherapy practice.
The Association is pleased to announce that some of our members have already started a series of talks and seminars introducing the benefits of hypnotherapy to the medical profession in a more formal and academic way. We have also had some positive media exposure in the national press. As membership increases we plan to organize nationwide talks and lectures on the use of hypnosis in the treatment of many psychological and psychosomatic conditions.
The Executive Committee (EC) has now finalized all the details of membership election and the Association is now in a position to start accepting new members. Full membership is open only to medical or dental graduates. However, non-medical candidates can apply for Affiliate membership. As an Association which strives to be at the forefront of the profession and its development we have set very high standards for its membership.
Hypnotherapy professionals who would like to apply for Affiliate membership must provide the EC with:
- Documentary evidence of their education qualifications, such documents being certified by a responsible official of the Board-approved Training Organization
- Their membership of a Board-nominated Hypnotherapy Organization being certified by a responsible Official of such organization or body (Board: Board of Science & Education of the Association).
- Every such nomination shall require that each candidate for Affiliated membership shall -

furnish a certificate signed by two Voting Members of the Association stating that from personal knowledge of him/her they consider the candidate a suitable person for election.
Affiliate members will have their names placed on the BAMH Register and will be eligible to accept referrals either from GPs and other medical practitioners, or, via the Register, directly from the general public. Included in the Affiliate membership is a free subscription to the European Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, which is the official periodical journal of the BAMH. Any person who has been an Affiliate member for three years or more may in due course be elected as an Associate member.
We are pleased to announce that the London College of Clinical Hypnosis (Practitioner Diploma) has met the educational requirements in 1. above and been approved as a training organization. The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH) and its Code of Ethics has also been approved as an organization meeting the BAMH criteria in 2. above. Therefore, Full members of the BSCH may apply to become Affiliate members of the BAMH.

Brian Gill, FBSCH
Our heart-felt congratulations to Brian on being awarded a Fellowship of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Brian was the first blind student of the LCCH and, as far as we know, is the first blind practising Hypnotherapist in the country. Since then, both he and the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis have learnt a tremendous amount about working around the difficulties of other disabled patients. Brian has actively been promoting both clinical hypnosis and the BSCH, participating in numerous press and radio interviews. With the help of his wife, Linda, he is conducting talks and presentations to a variety of health-care organizations, making himself available to give advice and guidance. Well done Brian, keep up the good work.
