NEWS FROM SCOTLAND
John Stack and Morag Grant (see photo below) of our Independent Examination Board were very impressed with the high standards they saw at the most recent Certificate exam in December last year. The group of 32 people of all ages and backgrounds were amazed at how the examiners turned what they expected to be a difficult day into a valuable stage of learning, and even an enjoyable experience! 80% of the students from the course have gone on to join the Diploma Course as budding hypnotherapists.

In the Spotlight

LCCH Supervisor Sara Stark, a former student on our Diploma course in 2001, is helping to expand the voluntary service at Glasgow's Marie Curie Cancer Centre in Huntershill, Glasgow. The centre provides a range of alternative therapies for IN/OUT patients, patients' carers and families, and recently extended to the staff. Hypnotherapy is proving to be an extremely popular choice with many patients, particularly those who find hands-on therapies uncomfortable or unsuitable. Sara began volunteering at the centre when she was about a third of the way through her Diploma course. The centre is run by Sheena Turner, another former LCCH student in Glasgow, and under her guidance Sara was able to work with patients that suited her experience enabling her to gain knowledge at a steady pace. Sara now volunteers at the centre two days a week and does regular talks with groups, including current LCCH students, about her experiences.

If you would like to gain some valuable experience in the voluntary sector, for further information, please call Sheena Turner at the Day Centre on

Supermum!

Jacqui Corry also completed her Diploma in 2001 and has now started her own professional practice in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire. Her story, however, is a little bit special as Jacqui is a busy mum with three children aged 4, 3 and 2. When she began the Certificate Course in Glasgow in March 2000, her youngest, Amanda, was only two-months-old. Jacqui suffered from Post-Natal Depression after the birth of all three of her children and while she always had an interest in complementary therapies she decided that this was the time to put them to the test. She began learning Baby Massage in order to overcome her own illness, and as her interest developed she moved into other fields and enrolled on the LCCH course.

While Jacqui was recovering from her illness, she decided to set up a Post-Natal Depression Support Group for other women in her area. The support group allowed her to share her experiences and to help other women find a way to heal themselves.

The group has been a great success and ultimately her experience had a positive outcome. Since completing the Diploma last year, Jacqui has started her own practice in hypnotherapy and other complementary treatments specialising in Post-Natal Depression and Addiction issues. She is now lecturing at Stirling University to Midwives and Nurses giving an insight into her experiences and how she overcame her illness. Jacqui is also now supervising on the current LCCH courses in Glasgow and starts a fast track Degree at Stirling University next year. We wish her much success!

Our twice-yearly residential weekends at enchanting Dod Mill in the Borders are proving to be extremely popular with people travelling from as far afield as the Midlands to attend. We have added to this a Reiki training weekend with Angela, who is a Master Practitioner, as the last weekend in October was such a great success. Wood-burning stoves, bonfires & stars, home-made food and fresh country air are just a few of the benefits of visiting Dod Mill. The next weekends scheduled are 12-14th April for Reiki I training, and then 3-5th May, 'Finding the Ki' - including yoga, tai-chi, meditation, journal work, relaxation and core energy management, and then at the end of September 'Sweeping the Leaves' - a restful and peaceful weekend of gentle personal development and self exploration. Places are already filling fast so book early!

Diary dates for 2002 Masterclasses at The Harvest Clinic, Glasgow, will be 'A Weight Off Your Mind' (advanced approaches to weight control) in November presented by Angela Trainer (Principal of LCCH Scotland), and 'Love, Sex & Relationships' (for those in a relationship or looking for one!) in early December co-presented by Angela Trainer and Graham Watts.

You will be amazed to discover that newly weds Angela and Graham are now happy grandparents (see photo below)! Kim, Graham's daughter, brought Nathan into the world on 22nd August. 'Wee Buddha' is keeping them all busy and well entertained and they have booked him on the weight control masterclass this year to deal with his overhealthy appetite!

Sad news for the college however is that our administrator Holly Gibb, is leaving us at the end of March! After much planning and excitement she and her partner Ruaraidh will be jetting off to see the world so we wish them both the best of luck and look forward to hearing all the stories on their return! They are heading to Australia to travel and work for a couple of years - where Holly will stop Australia smoking!
