TRACKING THE PROGRESS OF AN
EXETER LCCH STUDENT

Profile: Eric Fawcett

When the London College of Clinical Hypnosis branched out in 1997 into the South West and commenced training in Exeter, Eric Fawcett was one of the students to attend the very first Certificate Course taught by Christa Mackinnon, LCCH course director for the region. After taking and passing the Diploma examination with distinction the following year, he was invited to become an LCCH supervisor, as the size of the courses in the Westcountry had grown dramatically. Having supervised on the following Certificate and Diploma Course, Eric, who also holds a qualification in NLP, became a trainee lecturer and is now lecturing at all course levels for LCCH in Exeter.

During this past four years, Eric’s life has changed greatly - or, to put it better, - he changed it. He gave up the security of his salaried job and set forward, with admirable determination, to utilize his skills to the best of his ability. He combined and adapted his different skills, his years of managerial experience in retail, his NLP skills and especially his skills in Clinical Hypnosis to introduce them to a variety of people and organizations in various ways: He gives regular presentations to groups of GP’s throughout the south west. He has facilitated workshops, presented seminars and given talks to Headmasters, Organic Farmers, Nurses, Retailers, Adult Education Colleges - to name but a few. His talks have a number of titles, like ‘ Taking the mystery out of Hypnotherapy’, ‘Introduction to NLP’, ‘The structure of a positive mental attitude’, ‘Skills for everyday living’, ‘Self-hypnosis for Self-improvement’ and so on. It is not surprising that Eric gets characterized, very lovingly, by his LCCH colleagues in the south west as the one who ‘talks himself into the best jobs, highest salaries and biggest organizations’. Recently he has been asked to train a group of trainers in the Finance Sector, who have for two years won an award as ‘best in house trainers’. Apart from all of the above, he has been invited to take up an NHS contract with a large PCG (Primary Care Group) within a medical practice, consults through a health farm and conducts sessions in his own premises.

Everybody who has ever tried to make a good living in the Westcountry knows that it is far from easy. If you ask Eric, who doesn’t spend a penny on advertising, about the most important ingredient of his very successful, steady professional progression, he would say: FLEXIBILITY, ADAPTABILITY and PERSEVERANCE. He would advise you to look at all your skills, to think about the different ways you can use and combine them, and to continuously develop them. He would certainly advise you to overcome your obstacles and to branch out, trying to reach different audiences and to target different groups and he would advise you not to give up, to set yourself goals and to appreciate and sell your own unique combination of skills and of working.

EXETER

The Exeter courses, which commenced in 1997, are still going strong and smoothly. Currently we are running the Diploma Course and the Postgraduate Course at the same weekends and we find that the exchange between students during breaks is beneficial. All the lecturers are excited about the level of our postgraduate group. Their theoretical knowledge, practical experience and great interest make it a pleasure to teach and work with them. It seems that a lot of the students who have passed the Diploma examination are putting their skills to good use. We are very impressed by the many students who work from GP practices, made connections with Hospitals, Health Centres, Drugs - and other agencies, or have incorporated their new skills into their already existing careers. I would like to stress again that the medical sector, as well as other caring agencies, are opening up to Hypnotherapy in a way which seemed impossible a few years ago and to urge students to contact GPs, Hospitals, Health Centres and other ‘care’ organisations.

The Exeter team would like to wish all the current Diploma course students and the students on the Postgraduate course all the best for their forthcoming exam and their professional future.
