Medical Diploma Course: Continued
The main body of the course will be centred around the teaching of appropriate hypnotherapeutic techniques to treat commonly presenting conditions. The aetiology of the disease process will be covered briefly in the context of treatment with medical hypnotherapy. The course material will be presented with both practical and theoretical details in mind and is outlined below.
Theoretical Considerations
The following topics will be covered:
- Hypnoidal states, depth of trance, power of mental thought/suggestibility, principal stages of hypnotherapeutic consultations. Awakening theory, nature of hypnotic state, hypnotic phenomena, the value of post hypnotic suggestions, contra-indications to clinical hypnosis, stage hypnosis with respect to medical hypnosis, abreactions, and indicators to the depth of hypnosis.
- Left and right brain functioning and locus of control
- Neurolinguistic programming (NLP) will be presented within the framework of hypnotherapy, and will include a description of the Meta Model
- Group theory and logical types
- State dependent memory and learning behaviour
- Reciprocal inhibition
- Ericksonian hypnosis will be discussed with special reference to the following areas; confusion techniques, abreaction, autonomic function / role in perpetuation of symptoms, open ended suggestions /compound suggestions, establishment of a 'yes' set, use of the negative, truism, covering all classes of response, use of questions, implication, binds and double binds, interspersal technique.
