Symptom interpretation

Lecturer: Karine Solloway

Modern science has asserted that each emotion has its unique representation in the range of our bodily functions.

An illness is a signal that directs our awareness, interest and energy to itself and, in the process, upsets the usual smooth flow of life. It is a warning light that reveals itself as a series of bodily symptoms: visible expressions of an invisible process. Its function is to stop us in our tracks, revealing that something is no longer in order, and to make us ask questions about what lies behind it all.

The Symptom Interpretation Masterclass offers a unique comprehensive therapeutic protocol derived from clinical experience, a step-by-step guide to new empirically supported treatment.

In this Masterclass the participants will be taught a framework whereby they can clearly and easily identify the emotional roots of a patient's somatic symptom, and learn how to alter dysfunctional cognition, enhance emotional processing and modify illness behaviour, thus creating a solid foundation for the choice of therapeutic strategies.

Syllabus:

  • Mind-Body relationship: Rationale and overview
  • Analogy and symbolism of somatic symptoms
  • Holistic approach
  • Therapeutic techniques using hypnosis
    • Hypno-analysis
    • Cognitive-behavioural intervention
    • Other treatments
  • Symptom Interpretation Protocol (SIP) - comprehensive treatment manual
  • Assorted clinical conditions overview: cancer, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS); immune dysfunctions; heart & circulation; skin; sexuality & pregnancy
  • Discussion
