Managing Hypertension
Lecturers: Peter Mabbutt

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a silent disease that affects millions of people in the UK every year and is a known major contributing factor to the development of coronary heart disease and stroke. Pharmacological intervention and a few words on lifestyle change have, until recently, been the primary method of treatment. Recently, a more eclectic approach has been taken involving experts from a variety of disciplines that include clinical hypnosis.

This Masterclass aims to give participants an understanding of the disease process by looking at its physical and (often neglected) mental effects and to highlight the areas in which clinical hypnosis can be effectively used in its control.

As many external factors influence the development and maintenance of hypertension, this Masterclass will also look at strategies designed to control these within a one-to-one or group therapy setting.

Advice will be given on how to approach General Practitioners and Hospital departments for those interested in working with multidisciplinary rehabilitation programmes.
