Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a theory of language, communication and thought developed by therapist Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder upon which a wide variety of psychotherapeutic techniques are based. NLP theory proposes that the way in which we use language strongly affects the nature of our experience of life and greatly influences our beliefs and values. This in turn affects our behaviour, and how we behave influences how we choose to think and how other people respond to us.
Bandler and Grinder analysed how expert therapists worked and how they interacted with their patients in order to facilitate change. These expert therapists included Milton Erickson (hypnotherapy), Virginia Satir (family therapy) and Fritz Perls (parts / Gestalt Therapy). Bandler and Grinder also analysed the strategies people use in order to maintain mal-adaptive behaviours and thinking patterns. This resulted in a powerful set of psychotherapeutic tools that incorporate the best aspects of many other forms of psychotherapy. Although many of the techniques are designed to change thoughts and behaviours 'in the moment', techniques such as Time-line therapy have evolved to change how we relate to the past.
All NLP techniques are designed to reinforce the core philosophy that underpins NLP. Aspects of this philosophy include:
- you are in control of how you think, feel and behave
- what you experience is not reality - it is how you are choosing to perceive the external world as influenced by your beliefs, values and past perceptions
- you have all the resources you need; every behaviour has a positive intent
- your mind and your body are indivisible parts of the same system
- if one person can do something, you can learn to do it
- there is no such thing as failure, only feedback
- the meaning of your communication is the response that you receive
- if you keep doing what you're doing now you are very likely to keep getting the same results
CPPD in Neuro Linguistic Hypnotherapy
This NLP course has been designed specifically for hypnotherapists and provides you with a good understanding of the underlying philosophy and well as how to use NLP techniques within a broadly hypnotherapeutic treatment model. Where techniques have already been covered as part of other courses new, more efficient approaches will be presented. This enables you to work confidently and effectively with almost all presenting conditions.
The CPPD in Neuro Linguistic Hypnotherapy covers the same topics that are typically taught on NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner courses and more besides. The course is theoretical and practical with a strong emphasis on personal development as individuals and as well as therapists.
This course has been designed for qualified hypnotherapists. The following are the minimum entry requirements for the CPPD in Neuro Linguistic Hypnotherapy:
