What should go into my reflective diary?
The kind of thing we're looking for in your reflective diary is an account of how you felt about the weekend.
This can include your feelings about doing the course; about what was covered on each weekend and about your progress (so rather than a description of what was taught you'd write, for example "it was great to be back at the college and see my old class mates but it looks like there's a lot to get through this year. I'll have to make an effort to be more organised than I was on the CPPD course so that I get all my assignments and case study done in good time" or "we were taught how to take a thorough case history and I was surprised to find how much more complicated it was to come up with appropriate goals than I expected. I'd better get some practice in before the next session" or "The lecture on ethics was interesting. It made me wonder whether there are any kind of people out there who I wouldn't want to treat. I wonder what you're supposed to do if you get a client you really feel you don't want to work with (refer? self development?). Will make a note to ask my tutor or check at the next weekend"
It would also be a good idea for those of you who perhaps feel uncomfortable volunteering for demos or morning inductions to reflect on why you think that is and to think about what you could do to step out of your comfort zone and challenge your beliefs about these situations.
