THE CPPD IN CLINICAL HYPNOSIS COURSE(Certificate in Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) in Clinical Hypnosis (Level 6)) (Certificate in Clinical Hypnosis)
The CPPD builds the essential skills needed to critically analyse and evaluate the theories and techniques in the application of clinical hypnosis. The application and development of self-help tools is an integral part of the learning process assisting you to address the ethical and safety issues surrounding trance work. On successful completion of the CPPD, you will be awarded 20 credits at academic Level 6 and have the option to continue on to the TVU/LCCH PgCert in Clinical Hypnosis. Successful completion of the PgCert would allow you to practise under clinical supervision. The Certificate in Personal and Professional Development in Clinical Hypnosis is an introduction to the specialist subject of clinical hypnosis and does not confer hypnotherapy practitioner status. EligibilityAs a practical programme, it will be an invaluable adjunct for people engaged in the 'caring' professions. Healthcare professionals, teachers, counsellors and social workers can usefully explore the clinical applications of hypnosis within the spectrum of work they already do. It will also be attractive to professionals who are looking for a career change. The minimum age is 18 years. The LCCH operates a system of Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) and therefore the course is open to those with a genuine interest in clinical hypnosis. Prospective candidates will be required to carry out a written assignment in order to demonstrate their ability to work at academic Level 6. An in-person interview is carried out to ensure suitability. You will also be required to demonstrate that you are able to devote sufficient time for independent study in addition to time spent at training weekends. TutorialsOn weekend one of the CPPD course, students will be given a list of tutors. The individual student will then be responsible for contacting his/her tutor - usually in their own area - and to meet for an hour's tutorial at least once after each lecture weekend. At these sessions the tutor will check that the student fully understands the content of the previous weekend and provide a chance for practise of techniques learnt, as well as guidance for exam help. Because of its importance, the LCCH has arranged a nominal charge of £30 (UK pounds) per hour of tutorial. A minimum of three supervisory sessions are required as part of the CPPD in Clinical Hypnosis course and exam structure. CourseworkThe CPPD proceeds by means of teaching weekends, tutorial sessions and independent guided study. You will be provided with weekend workbooks that deliver the core learning of each module, and contain learning material, references, appendices and ongoing checkpoint activities (designed for self assessment of progress). Students are expected to read course material in advance of attendance. In addition, students are also expected to carry out wider reading of relevant books and journal articles in order to broaden their knowledge beyond the course materials. Further materials include a module study guide, which will provide information on assessments and indicate essential texts, journals, and website addresses. Supplementary Critical Thinking Skills workshops are delivered by senior lecturing staff. Further academic support will be provided by individual module leaders, whilst TVU's Learning Skills Development Scheme (LSDS) also provides support in preparing for assessment. AssessmentThe CPPD is assessed by both formative and summative assessments. The formative assessments are mostly in the form of short response questions and practical work in tutorials. The summative assessment is in two parts: a practical assessment and an examination, which includes short response questions and a reflective open-book paper. You will be able to evaluate application of the theory and practise of hypnosis to your life experience. Your developing expertise in the safe and ethical use of fundamental hypnotic techniques will have a commensurate effect on your personal learning and development. Learning Skills and Memory EnhancementIn response to the perceived needs of students who have not recently undertaken academic study, the LCCH has developed a four-module course of memory enhancement that is presented on the CPPD in Clinical Hypnosis course. The 'Learning Skills and Memory Enhancement' programme is taught through posthypnotic suggestion and thereafter self-hypnosis, so results can be noticed immediately. These techniques aid memory retention and recall, and many have told us that they find it helpful not only for exam purposes but also in their every-day working and home life. Both the LCCH and TVU provide assistance with studying for individuals who have not previously been in undergraduate education, or, for those returning to it after a prolonged break.
